Seven Tips For A Long And Healthy Life
As good as modern medical technology is, it can never save you from the problems caused by a life style that is unhealthy. Instead of getting a modern medical fix for every problem, it is far better to live in such a way that you will hardly ever fall ill.
An ounce of prevention is certainly better than a pound of cure. Here are seven tips on how to live a long and healthy life. In addition, the same life style that helps you to avoid illness also helps you to lose weight.
1. Get Enough Exercise
In the past people had to use their physical bodies in the course of their normal work. But today someone may get up, go to work in a car, then sit down, get up to go home in the car and when arriving at home, sit down again for the rest of the day. In such a life there is no physical labor. This physical inactivity is one of the main reasons for a host of diseases. Sport, running. walking and other things must be added to our life if our normal work does not require us to exert ourselves physically. I
2. Go to sleep when you feel sleepy
This may sound simple, but many people stay up late even when their body is telling them that it is time to sleep. Yoga and Ayurvedic doctors also say that it is better to sleep in the night and be active during the day. However, people such as students will take coffee and stimulants to study late into the night. Others develop the habit of remaining active at night and sleeping during the day. While we can do this, it eventually takes a toll on health. Alternative health doctors say that this kind of unnatural living is one of the contributing factors in the causation of cancer and other diseases
3. Eat when you feel hungry
This is also a simple idea, but once again we often go against the messages of the body. If you eat out of habit or due to social pressure at certain time of the day, even when you have no real appetite, then you will not digest your food properly. Acidity and indigestion begin, and this contributes to the likelihood of other more complex diseases taking root. Having an appetite is actually a sign of good health, but if you have no appetite you should wait a bit and then eat. (If you have no appetite even after awaiting a reasonable amount of time, then you should consult a doctor because something is wrong.)
4.Fast on a Regular, Systematic Basis
If you would ask any person to work 365 days per year without any rest, they would complain and say that they must have some rest or else they will break down. But we have never bothered to ask or to think about our digestive organs which we compel to work day after day without a rest. They cannot protest the way a person would to his boss, but they do give us signals that they cannot work non-stop. When we ignore those signals and still compel them to work, those organs break down. That is why periodic fasting is necessary. Refrain from eating for one complete day. This gives a rest to your digestive organs and also helps in the elimination of wastes from your body. Regular fasting allows a person to gain extra time for intellectual or spiritual pursuits. Fasting is not for hermits in a cave, but is a sensible practice that anyone can practice.
5. Wash with cool water before going to bed
As mentioned above, proper sleep is essential for the maintenance of health. If you wash your important motor and sensory organs (hands, arms, eyes, legs, mouth, genitals) before sleep using cool water, this will relax you and prepare you for deep sleep.
6. Perform meditation on a regular basis
Your body is linked to your mind. Many of the diseases of this era are psychosomatic. Stress and anxiety take their toll on our physical health. Meditation is a mental exercise which, among other things, allows you to detach yourself from the worries of life. Learn a simple technique and do it regularly.
7. Get up early every day
Once again the old proverb, “Early to bed, early to rise makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise.” I don’t know if it will make you wealthy, but it will certainly make you healthy. Your body needs just enough sleep, not too much and not too little.
Follow these tips and you can’t go wrong.
Health insurance plans and drug copayment coupons
One of the more exciting marketing strategies of the last ten years has been the growth in the use of coupons. The idea is simple. A central marketing agency promotes the named businesses by offering discount vouchers. Go to this restaurant, eat a magnificent meal, and enjoy a discount of 50%. This is a great promotion for the restaurant and the statistics show the majority of people who come to try out the meals return and pay the full price later on. Now let the pharmaceutical industry play with this idea. Suppose the drug manufacturers were to offer coupons to their loyal customers, how would the marketing plan work? Well, for a moment, consider the problem of the generic market. When the patent runs out on a brand, others may copy the chemistry and sell a generic version of the drug for a significantly lower price. From the customer’s point of view, this is wonderful news. The same drug is available. It has been approved by the FDA as an exact match for the original branded drug. And it comes at a heavily discounted price. Not surprisingly, this knocks a big hole in the profits of the branded manufacturer, so this manufacturer will search for a way to keep the generic manufacturer out of the market.
Enter the copayment coupons. The idea of copayments has been central to insurance policies for some years. This requires the patient to pay a proportion of the medical costs. It is actually self-insurance of that part of the costs. The justification advanced by insurance companies is that it reduces moral hazard, i.e. it is an encouragement to people only to seek treatment when it is genuinely necessary. Through the coupons, the manufacturers offer a form of subsidy to the patients if they copay for branded drugs. This makes the branded drugs more affordable and maintains more of their profit margin. Obviously, if the brands were losing too much of their market share, the manufacturers would have to reduce their prices to compete with the generics. In theory, the coupons represent a compromise. The patients pay less for the brand, but more than for the generic. The manufacturers give away a part of their profits, but less than through a price reduction to complete with the generic directly.
There is now a class action effectively accusing the manufacturers of fraud through their use of these coupons. As it stands, the insurance companies pay the manufacturer a fixed price for every branded pill or tablet prescribed. The manufacturers and pharmacists have been forgetting to tell the insurers about the coupons. It is highly relevant that the patients have been paying less at the drugstore counters. Because there are no savings to the insurance companies in paying for the generics, the premium rates stay high. This makes cheap health insurance even less likely to appear. In reality everyone is losing. Customers are still paying more than they should. Both individual and group health insurance plans cost more than they should. All this being purely for the benefit of the pharmaceutical industry. The class action describes these coupons as part of a bait and switch scam. If the courts agree, heavy damages will be awarded and there will be compensation available to some consumers.
Taking Propecia and managing weight
A common side effect with many medications is unwanted weight gain. However, men who suffer from hair loss and treat the condition with oral medication should not experience weight gain during their treatment. If you do gain weight, it is possible there are underlying causes since weight gain is not a documented side effect of their hair loss treatment. There are several things men can do to manage their weight while taking this drug.
Identifying Cause of Weight Gain
Weight gained by men when they are using this medication is rarely due directly to the medication itself so they are most likely gaining weight for another reason. The drug can result in mild depression. And since men taking the drug may be anxious to begin with because of their hair loss, they are probably less interested in exercising. If their exercise routine is changed in any way this can often lead to a few additional pound being put on.
Addressing Weight Problem
Let your doctor know you are gaining weight. He will check to make sure there is not an underlying cause to your weight gain. Sometimes drug interactions can have unexpected consequences in people so make sure your doctor know about all the medications you take. If there is not another reason for your weight gain, he will work with you so you can make lifestyle changes that stop the weight gain and promote weight loss. Expect exercise and diet to be at the top of the list.
Treating the Hair Loss
By changing your lifestyle or working at stopping your weight gain you will not need to stop your treatment for hair loss. Fast or excessive weight gain can be dangerous. It can also impact your treatment regimen. Your doctor can decide you are becoming too unhealthy and stop the treatments. You should figure out why you are gaining weight and address it as soon as you find out it is happening for just this reason.
Keep in mind that the weight gain is likely to disappear after your propecia treatment ends. This means that you will at least stop gaining weight. Depending upon factors such as age and overall health condition, you may have to work at losing weight you gained. It is usually depression or a medical condition that causes men using using propecia to put on weight and not the medication as this article shows. Lifestyle changes can address weight gain.

Good Food Good Health – Keeping Young
Hi everybody
We all seem to be looking for that one thing that will make us feel better, defy the ever ageing process and allow us to live longer.
Recently I have been asked many times ‘what can I do to keep feeling and looking young’. I always say there are many things we can do but the main aim is for a healthy body and healthy mind.
It would be great if we could just pop along to our local supermarket and buy a product to do this, but this is where we need a reality check – as this is never likely to happen.
Through the ages eternal youth and longevity have been sought after, with hundreds of different potions promising wonders.
Today, we still pop thousands of ‘pills’, use ‘anti-ageing’ products, grind our bodies at the gym and even resort to plastic surgery; we are spending big bucks trying to put off the inevitable.
We all know that a healthy life style – ‘good food good health’ should be a way of life for everybody.
By consuming good food makes you feel good and this shows on the outside. Your skin and hair shines and glows when you are getting the right minerals and vitamins from your diet, but along with your nails are the first to show signs of deficiency.
So eating a natural well balanced diet really does go a long way. If you can cut out most processed food, relieving your body off all the additives they contain can make a fantastic improvement.
Tests carried out on some of the regular additives to popular processed foods have shown that they can make you feel lethargic, irritable, and some people have allergies. The amount of salt hidden in some of these foods is also horrendous.
I believe that a healthy mind is really one of the most important things that keep you feeling young, and that your outlook on life is responsible also for affecting your health. Having a healthy body and mind go hand in hand and really do compliment each other.
I am a great believer in ‘visualisation’ a technique we can all use to calm us down and relax. This is what I use when I feel tense, such as the dentists surgery, I just imagine myself on a gorgeous beach, the sun beating down on by body while I listen to the sound of the sea. I feel better just by typing that.
I wrote an article earlier this year on visualisation therapy and was amazed at the response of how many people had never heard of this, but who had then put some of the techniques in practice and said they benefited.
I use visualisation-breathing exercises regularly – diaphragmatic, as I suffer from COPD and have found these really help and always feel clearer and calmer afterwards, our youngest daughter used this before and during her driving test, which she passed first time and said that she amazingly felt really relaxed and was sure it helped, whether this really did help pass the test or not it certainly had a claming effect, so now she is going to try it on her A level exams later this summer.
Visualisation is the rediscovery of an ancient art used for healing. There is some good literature and videos on visualisation available or click on our link in our resource box for Quantum mind power for more information.
Research has just shown that going to church can be beneficial in helping us to live longer, it showed that attending church once a week gave a 30 percent less chance of dieing during the eight and half year study that was undertaken.
That’s great and fantastic for churchgoers, but I believe that it could possibly be the affect of meeting others, socialising and interacting that lifts your spirit, so if by going to church, mothers union or any other event gives us a sense of well being and achievement can only be a benefit in making us feel good about ourselves, giving us a healthier outlook on life.
Relaxation is a must too. We all have busy lives, but we must find our own ‘space’- time to be able to unwind, and it does not have to cost the earth.
What can be easier than a lovely relaxing bath, you can make it really mood enhancing by adding a few drops of essential oil or by using fragranced candles, remember to lock the door so you are not disturbed, it also costs little.
Laughing is a great way to de-stress, whether it is on your own relaxing and watching a funny film or with friends helps immensely. We all feel 100 per cent better after a good laugh, and time seems to fly by when we are happy and what is great laughing seems to be infectious and cheers up people around us.
Music is a great way to lift our spirits, and nowadays with Ipods and MP3 players we do not have to inflict our preference of music on any one else. I feel lost without my MP3, I listen and sing along to myself when I am walking the dog or doing the housework, even listen to talking books, at the moment I am learning Spanish and has given me a real sense of achievement, if I can do it anyone can, and in turn boosts confidence and sense of well being.
Getting a good nights sleep of at least six hours gets the day off on the right foot, cat naps are excellent too, research has found that even twenty minutes during the day is the equivalent to a couple of hours sleep at night. A good time to do the breathing exercise is just before going to sleep.
Eating fresh fruit and vegetables regularly need not be expensive if you can get to your local market or farm shop, where seasonal and local grown are excellent quality.
Gentle exercise and walking is good for all of us, keeping the body and mind supple, be realistic more strains and breaks happen when people throw them self into a heavy exercise programme. I do a lot of walking and use dance for exercise, mainly because its fun and really enjoy it and is just as good a work out.
So by eating a good balanced varied diet ‘good food good health’ gives our body the best chance, helping our immune system to combat the stress and strains we endure daily, and using as many of the relaxation methods possible will make you feel good on the inside and the outside.

Caring For Your Senior Dog – Tips on How to Take Care of Your Aging Dog
Even though advances in medicine and nutrition have prolonged the life span of dogs more than ever before, old age is still inevitable. Usually, small breeds can live longer than the larger breeds. The changes and problems that an aging dog might experience are very similar to those experienced by humans and need special geriatric care to combat their declining health.
The physical and cognitive abilities of dogs start to decline gradually as they approach their senior years. They also take much longer to recover from injury or sickness. Early detection and timely treatment of any condition will give them a better chance to lead a near normal life. To ensure a comfortable life for your dog during its senior years you should consult your vet about an appropriate geriatric health care plan for your dog.
While regular veterinary exams are important throughout your dogs life, they become absolutely essential as they start to approach their senior years. Most probably, a twice-a-year general geriatric exam will be recommended by your vet and this might involve a number of lab tests including blood tests.
If your dog displays any abnormalities in its activities or behavior then make sure to consult your vet as soon as possible. This is because even a small problem that might seem insignificant can become serious very quickly in aging dogs.
One of the first aging sign that you will notice in your dog is probably arthritis. Consult your vet for joint supplements and pain relievers to make their condition more bearable. A warm place to sleep and rest can help to alleviate their pain. Dog beds made of orthopedic foam can also provide better comfort.
You will also notice that your dog is no longer responding to stimuli as quickly as before. Keeping them active is one of the best ways to combat their slowly deteriorating sensory abilities. Appropriate training routines and daily exercise is a must if you want to keep their senses sharp.
The most important change that you might have to make in your aging dogs life will be regarding diet. If you keep feeding them their regular diet then your dog has a risk of obesity. Dog foods that are specially formulated for older dogs will provide the special nutritional requirements of their aging body and will also help to maintain their weight.
While caring for your senior dog, make sure to include a weekly massage. This will not only make your dog ecstatic but will give you a chance to check for any abnormal lumps or swelling in their body. Brushing your dogs coat at least once a week will keep their skin stimulated and healthy.
Another common problem that your aging dog will encounter is their inability to “hold it” it for long. They might need to go out more often and some might even wet their bedding. Consult your vet for bladder control medications and buying water-proof bedding might be a good option.
While vet care and timely treatments can make your senior dogs life more comfortable, the most important thing that you can do for your senior dog is to keep on loving them, just as you did when they were active and young.
